This mural was painted in 2018 outside the Town Council Office to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI.
The theme and content were chosen by the young people from Keynsham who decided to focus on the means of communication throughout the war, which was of course hand written letters rather than Whatsapp messages! They were keen to highlight the destruction and devastation of the conflict on those serving on the front lines and also the impact on families back home.
They wrote over one hundred names of those from Keynsham who had been killed in the conflict, while taking inspiration and direct quotes from the novel and more recently made film, All Quiet On The Western Front, as depicted in the letters below.
